Turkey’s June 24 Elections and the Reaction of the Oppressed Muslim World

On June 24, Mr. President Erdoğan, the man who always speaks and stands for the rights of those marginalized, oppressed and wronged societies around the world as many people believe, won the toughest and most challenging presidential election in the history of the Republic of Turkey as some political analysts describe it. More than 70 percent of the people of the Republic of Turkey voted. That was the largest number of Turkish people voting for presidential elections ever in the history of Turkey. It is worth mentioning that the Republic of Turkey transformed from parliamentary to an executive presidential system of government.

On June 24, all poor and oppressed Muslims around the world were keeping a close eye and following any developments about the presidential elections in Turkey. From Somalis to the people of Palestine, the Rohingya Muslim minorities in Myanmar to the devastated Syrian people by the ruthless Assad and many more other oppressed Muslims around the world including targeted Muslim minorities in Europe were sending their prayers to the Sultan of all oppressed societies, Mr. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, as they believe so.

Erdoğan as a Hero in Somalia
After civil war severely damaged the life of the Somali society. Education, healthy and all the other basic needs were destroyed. Lots of people lost their lives for no reason. Poverty and hunger become normal among the people of Somalia. Deadly diseases, droughts, and famine hit and spread all across the country. Turkey was the country responded to the need of the Somalis at the right time providing with the required humanitarian assistance.

President Erdoğan's visit to Mogadishu in 2011 was the first by a non-African head of government in decades, and the establishment of the largest Turkish embassy in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, as well as the commencement of regular Turkish Airlines flights to Mogadishu, paved Turkey's status as a significant player in the reconstruction of Somalia. Furthermore, Turkey has reconstructed and equipped Mogadishu's largest hospital, officially opened by Erdoğan on the following visit in January 2015.

Mr. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his government facilitated Somalia to re-appear on the international political arena once again and turned the eyes of the international communities to Somalia after they had ignored and described it as a failed state. There is no doubt that President Erdogan and his people helped the Somalis when the rest of the world wavered. That is the reason why Somalis everywhere closely followed the elections and prayed for President Erdogan to be re-elected.

As soon as the declaration of President Erdoğan’s win in the elections, Mohamed Abdullah Farmajo, the president of Somalia, congratulated Erdoğan in a statement on Twitter: "Congratulations to President @RT_Erdogan on his successful presidential election. The government & people of Somalia congratulate the people of Turkey on their historic presidential and parliamentary elections. Turkey a valuable partner of Somalia," he wrote
It is not only Somalis those who love and admire President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as a hero, all other troubled Muslims around the world do the same.

Erdogan as the Sultan of all Oppressed around the World
Turkey hosts the largest number of Syrian refugees, up to 4 million Syrian refugees, after they have been displaced by the ruthless and the cruelty of the Assad regime. That is what is making Syrians love Erdogan so much and admire him above all. You could see too many posts by Syrians on social media congratulating and celebrating on Erdogan's election win on June 24.

Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas also congratulated Erdogan in a phone call "the success of the Turkish democratic process and his victory in the presidential elections," said the official Palestinian News Agency (WAFA). Abbas said: "I wish Turkey more success, progress, and stability." Erdogan, according to the agency, stressed Turkey's "continued support" for the Palestinian people and "their right to freedom and stability."

President Erdogan seems to be the only solid defender for the rights of Palestinians. He and his people are committed to helping the Palestinians politically and through humanitarian assistance as well. The Marmara incident was historical when a civil Turkish boat carrying food and medicine to the restricted Gaza was caught by fire from Israeli soldiers who were surrounding Gaza by air, sea, and land, not allowing aid to be delivered inside Gaza. 19 Turkish aid personnel were killed in that incident. At that time Turkey was the only country that risked their lives to reach the restricted needy people inside Gaza.

Myanmar is another example of how Turkey playing an important role in helping those are marginalized, oppressed and suffering around the world. Turkey was the only country acted directly to the ethnic cleansing against the Rohingya Muslim minorities in Myanmar. Turkey sent humanitarian assistance to those people. The first lady of the Republic of Turkey Emine Erdogan visited the displaced Rohingya Muslim minorities in Bangladesh delivering aid to them.

President Erdogan and his government also speak and stand for the rights of the targeted Muslim minority groups in the heart of Europe. At a program hosted by Istanbul's Esenler municipality to mark Laylat al-Qadr (the night of power), which marks the first revelation of the Quran to the Prophet Muhammad: "Because, you should know, a mosque being closed in Austria, Muslims and men of religion being kicked out of Austria would start another crusader-crescent war and you would be responsible for it." President Erdogan said emphasizing that there is no difference in terms of mindset between displacing Rohingya Muslims and shutting down mosques in the middle of Europe.

All these endeavors and hard work by the president of the Republic of Turkey regarding defending, speaking and standing for the rights of those marginalized, oppressed and persecuted societies around the world made him a Sultan. That was the reason why those people around the world were praying for him while he was in the campaign, congratulating and celebrating while he declared victory in the elections on June 24.
